Stage 1 - Getting Your Pup On The Treadmill

Start training with the [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] treadmill in the off point. Bring your pup over to the treadmill and let them smell and investigate the machine at their convenience. Once they seem satisfied, step onto and off of the treadmill with them numerous (at least three) times. Delay for a little longer each time, to make your pup realize that this is just a piece of furniture and nothing to fear. If your canine is very hesitant to follow you onto the machine, you can use a treat to coax them forward. Simply lead them onto the treadmill [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] with the gift and relinquish it while they have [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] all four paws on-board. Duplicate this process until your canine is comfortable staying on the inactive treadmill.

Stage 2 - Walking

Once you [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] can get to the stage that your canine will stand on the treadmill without jumping out, get them on the treadmill and then start the belt at it's slowest setting. While doing [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] this hold your dog (or his leash) and encourage them to walk. They are likely to be unsettled at first, but do your best to keep them on the treadmill, not letting them off until they are composedly [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] walking for 10 seconds or so. As soon as you have 10 seconds of success, praise and treat the canine, then let them off.

Take a break for a few minutes, doing another fun activity such as playing fetch or even giving [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] your dog a belly rub. Whatever they enjoy!

Now [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] repeat the whole procedure, this time for a twenty second treadmill walk. Keep incrementally increasing the [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] time until the dog is relaxed walking for a few minutes at a time.

Stage 3 - Jogging

[link widoczny dla zalogowanych] If you have your pup comfortably pacing at a slow pace for several minutes, the hard part is over! Now simply raise the speed gradually to a pace where your pup is comfortably jogging. You can encourage them by standing in front of the treadmill and praising.

As the days go by, it might help to keep a journal of the current pace and distance, so you are sure to increase either determinant deliberately. Just like for human runners and hikers, going too far or too fast when your muscles [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] are not used to it can result in injury.

Things to Keep in Mind

Never leave your dog all alone on the pup treadmill!

Take your time. If your canine is really hesitant about the experience, go very slowly and make sure they are as [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] comfortable as possible before you move on to the next step.
