In Part One, the debate was about why some nutritional supplements are not considered to be effective. There was awe at the hundreds of ingredients already provided by Nature in every fruit and vegetable. There is no doubt about the efficacy of dietary supplementation because of modern food production. The question remains how to duplicate what Nature already provides from seed to root to plant in a laboratory setting encapsulated in a pill or tablet. In my opinion, this is a vital link to understanding the efficacy of vitamins, especially in the light of what food processing does to foods. Remember, always, that the most important decision you can ever make for your family's health is their dietary supplement.
Part Two considers at least TEN concerns about the vitamin manufacturing process to help make a more informed decision about your brand of vitamin pills.
Here is a valuable exercise to think about next time you hold a bottle of vitamin pills and wonder which supplement works best. These are some of the questions and answers from research on cellular nutrition and natural supplementation.
(1) Most companies have a 'source' for raw ingredients that come from GMP registered and audited facilities. There are thousands barbour deutschland of vitamin pill suppliers but almost all of them buy their bulk powders from the same source because only a handful of manufacturer have the laboratory ability for extraction. Here are a few questions to start. What about the freshness of ingredients because we know how quickly nutrients dissipate from natural sources? How are these sensitive ingredients protected from heat, light and oxygen, the three main factors that lead to degraded and ineffective nutrients?
(2) From the shipment of raw ingredients, the mass production of vitamin tablets begins with high speed tableting machines combining ingredients with fillers, flavors, colorants and even lubricants. Most supplements are mixed with paddles or ribbon blenders that can allow for separation of particles based on density. The tablets are pressed and sometimes spray coated to help withstand the packaging and shipping process.
(3) Some tablets have an enteric coating which is a special resistance that protects the ingredients as they pass through the stomach and into the small intestine where they can be absorbed. Some have a time-release formula which some doctors don't recommend because general absorption may also be inhibited. It is not unusual that a tablet can contain more additives than active ingredients.
(4) Vitamin pills need to dissolve according to a USP standard recommended time of 2 hours for total dissolution. Several lab studies show that not all pills dissolve equally and some are not dissolved after 12 hours.
(5) Part of this valuable "recipe" is to make sure that vitamins and minerals are bioavailable with a certain biochemical make-up in order for the cells to absorb the nutrient. For example, some manufacturers believe that HVP chelates (hydrolysed vegetable protein) are more readily absorbed by the gastrointestinal tract than are the cheaper mineral salts or colloidal minerals used by the majority of brands.
(6) It is also important that mixtures are synergistic because many vitamins, minerals and anti-oxidants work better together than alone. For example, beta-carotene is more effective when combined with vitamin C, vitamin E and selenium. Different brands promote different nutrient combinations woolrich sito ufficiale with various enzymes and co-factors needed for important metabolic processes such as glutathione, n-acetyl cysteine, riboflavin, selenium and niacin. All major, trace and ultra trace minerals are also essential.
(7) Another question is about the uncertainties in the dosage requirements that vary with manufacturers. hogan sito ufficiale Taking isolated vitamins for specific problems doesn't work. It is important to know what ratio of various vitamins to take and how to obtain a full hollister france spectrum because all vitamins and micronutrients must be present together in the correct ratio barbour pas cher soldes in order for the body to make its own natural selection. Most nutrients have a brief and specific life and are eliminated readily so toxicity is rare. It is possible to overdose on nutritional supplements when taken in larger doses or even smaller doses over time, particularly with some kinds. Doctors pose cautionary notes with Vitamin A (retinol) and Vitamin D (calciferol) and iron (ferrous or ferric forms).
(8) Another consideration is the vitamin and mineral requirements called RDA (Recommended Daily Allowances or RDI's in Canada). These are standards established by the government at a normal level for healthy, hollister pas cher normal people to meet their nutritional and developmental needs and originally designed to prevent acute deficiencies. They are not designed as optimal intakes based on nutritional data and not adequate enough to prevent degenerative diseases. This is why some advocates want a moncler sito ufficiale change in FDA levels. For example, the RDA for Vitamin E is 10 to 15 IU, yet studies show benefits at 100 to 400 IU's which is found in an equivalent of 33 pounds of spinach. It is irrational to think that all of us can meet our needs through a simple number because we are different. Sometimes it is better to err on the side of more than not enough as long as they are no synthetic elements.
(9) At the end, you must trust the "recipe" of the pill and the doctors who formulate it. The nutrients need to be biologically available to the cells. Worse of all, is to take ingredients that are not unacceptable to the cells themselves. Instead of benefitting the body, the need to eliminate biologically hogan outlet un-useful nutrients actually uses up our existing store of nutrients. The result is that one can end up abercrombie with fewer nutrients after having taken a supplement.
(10) The pills are finally in the bottle and labeled. There should be a a full disclosure of ingredients with an expiration date so that age will not reduce the efficacy of tablets or capsules. In Canada it is important to look for the DIN (drug identification number) to show the Health Board has certified the product. Note the expiry date and a mailing address.
Wow! Where do you begin?
Now, there is something new to consider. A landmark decision was recently announced by the FDA. For the first time it has approved a plant food, WALNUTS. "There is supportive but not conclusive research that shows eating 1.5 oz of walnuts per day…may reduce the risk of coronary heart disease." It is excellent nutrition with plant based alpha-linolenic acid (a precursor to omega 3 fatty acids), vitamin B-6 (folate), minerals, protein, melatonin which provides clear cardiovascular benefits by improving the elasticity of the arteries as well as lowering the levels of LDL (bad cholesterol).
For the first time ever, walnut farmers peuterey sito ufficiale can put the claim of health benefits on the labels of packaged walnuts." Quoted from Nutrition and Healing e-Tip newsletter June 14, 2004.
This brings us to the first dilemma, full circle, where we started. What other simple, natural foods can be so beneficial? This is the main reason why I stick close to Mother Nature's "manufacturing" process. It is our responsibility to keep informed, communicative, selective with our diets, intelligent and moncler sito ufficiale visionary in our choice of supplements, and ultimately appreciative of the divine unity and mastery of Nature and our body.
Until man can duplicate a blade of gras, nature can laugh at his so called scientific knowledge. Remedires from chemicals will never stand in favour compared with the products of nature, the living cell of the plant. Thomas Edison
